A high-level corporate job in a swanky ivory tower with a six-figure package with a fancy designation is what every Masters & MBA holder dreams of. After spending a bomb on a course in USA/Canada, parents are expecting hamara raja beta will earn big money and surely get some good “returns” from the lady he marries…oh no..that’s not dowry….that’s just something that the girl’s father does when she gets married. Anyways the point is not about shaadi here. The positioning of the fancy corporate job that we have is so overplayed….”so what do you do” is the “typical” question asked by everyone and pop comes my answer….“ I head blah blah department and have a team of XYZ….I’m responsible for planning the strategy of the company and positioning the brand as one of the leaders”.

Cut to the real picture….what do I do? Hear “the experts” telling me “Mazaa nahi aaya….ismein who punch nahi hai”.

Oh wait there’s more…”shouldn’t the mug be kept at this angle with the notepad and pen slightly titled so that our logo is visible? It’s about detailing!” Yeah right that’s what your “Smart Investor” is looking at!! The most important thing….let’s showcase our brand through story-telling….yes that’s the current buzzword. So the marketing mind in me has woken up and I start thinking with my creative colleague about different ideas on how we can make our brand exciting.

But hey…why do we rack our brains? Our boss has already done the job. Yes, suddenly he at his age wants to connect with the “youngsters” or the millennials as they are liked to be called. So what do these millennials like? Apparently, they like stories of the king and his subjects or the very smart frog or the dim-witted crocodile. Remember what we had read when we were 5 years old….a million years go…yes my boss thinks that these are relatable stories which we should connect with our organizational focus and business targets!!!!!

So, the bottom line is…please do not get overwhelmed when you see someone stylishly attired with a fancy bag speaking flattery English and think oh my god how do I match that calibre…trust me…it’s just a beautiful façade to cover the crappy work that we all do…thanks to our bosses and their brilliant vision. Next time you see someone, stop for a moment, think about this anecdote and smile. Hope that will make your boring day slightly better 😊
